Easter has arrived in Swindon!

by swindon

Oh how I wish we celebrated Easter more than once a year! There were hot-cross buns, simnel cakes, gorgeous easter biscuits and beautifully decorated chocolate eggs (with homemade chocolate ‘jazzies’ inside!) galore today at our Easter Baking Workshop.  We spent 3 hours – which flew by -  with a fantastic group of children who not only baked all their yummy goodies but even managed to model their very own Easter Bunnies.

Really looking forward to our May Half Term workshop, which we’re just about to finalise the details for, so keep an eye on our Cooking with Children page for more information – do you think we could justify Easter Eggs again at the end of May?!

Beautiful Cupcake Bouquets for Mother’s Day

by swindon

There were 6 delighted Mums in North Wiltshire on Mothering Sunday (me being 1 of them!) who received beautiful cupcake bouquets designed and made by their children at our Mother’s Day workshop on Saturday afternoon.   It was quite an accomplishment to get everything done in the 2 hours but we had lots of fun (the laughter could be heard by a neighbour!) and as you’ll see from the pictures, the children were quite rightly very proud to have produced such an amazing gift for their Mum.  Thanks everyone for a lovely afternoon and we’re now looking forward to our next workshop, Easter Baking on Friday 15th April.

Cupcake bouquet raising money for Comic Relief!

by swindon

Thought you might like to see the fantastic cupcake bouquet that my 9 year old daughter made to raise money at her school’s Red Nose Day Cake Sale today.  She did all of it herself (with a little help wiring the beads from her Grandma) and is proving a real expert in piping the beautiful ‘roses’.  Quite rightly, she’s was very proud of the end results and is hoping it will raise lots of money this afternoon.  She can’t wait to help me show the other children how to create their own amazing bouquets at our Mother’s Day Cupcake Bouquet workshop being held on Saturday 2nd April - if your child would like to join us, please see our Cooking with Children page for more details.

Delicious food & lots of fun at Half Term Cooking Workshop

by swindon

On Friday we were joined by 8 young chefs who chopped, grated, kneaded and stirred their way through our yummy winter warmer recipes.  We all had a fantastic time and the children went home with cartons and bags full of the wonderful goodies that they’d made.  Olivia, age 5, was so proud when she showed her daddy what she’d made and told him ’I can cook better than mummy now!’

Homemade ravioli with our new KitchenAid attachment…

by swindon

I just have to tell you about the latest edition to my KitchenAid family.  Kitty, my beloved (and very hardworking!) Artisan mixer has a new friend – a ravioli maker!

My 8 year old daughter had a friend over on Saturday afternoon and, as is the norm these days, wanted to make dinner for us all.  As the girls LOVE all things pasta, I decided this was an ideal opportunity to try out my new ravioli attachment – now re-named ‘Renata’!  Having quickly made up some fresh pasta, whizzed  it through the pasta attachment, we were ready to go.  We made a gorgeous, simple chicken & spinach filling, followed the instructions and with a few turns of the handle had produced beautifully crimped little cushions of ravioli – the girls and I couldn’t believe how easy it was.

I’m afraid I don’t have any pictures to share as within 5 minutes of them leaving ‘Renata’, the raviolli were in the pan to be cooked, topped with a fresh tomato sauce and being devoured by the whole family – simply delicious!

So thank you girls, Kitty and Renata for the perfect Saturday night tea.

Sticky “Steggy” Chinese Dumplings

by swindon

We made delicious sticky Chinese dumplings at our Saturday morning cookery club today in celebration of the Chinese New Year on Thursday.  However, we’ve decided to call them  Steggy Dumplings as the little parcels filled with a gorgeous mixture of minced pork, spinach, spring onion, carrot, ginger and soy sauce look like stegosaurus dinosaurs!
